Overlooking the scenic Crawford Notch, this kiln-dried douglas fir frame went up near Bretton Woods in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It features many pitches of roof, several shed dormers and a large greatroom spanned by a king and strut truss. Doug-fir braces are used throughout along with ash splines which offer contrast between the lighter hardwood and salmon softwood.
This frame utilizes fully housed joinery. This will limit the amount of shrinkage visible as the frame dries over time and maintain a clean aesthetic.
The Douglas-fir was kiln dried resulting in the frame being more resistant to the splitting, cracking and movement that a green frame might experience. Kiln Dried wood is more stable. We expect this frame to stay tight for years.
